We recruit, train and support volunteer Panel Members who make legal decisions with and for children and young people in children’s hearings, and volunteer Area Support Teams (ASTs) who provide support and guidance to Panel Members locally. You may have heard of us being referred to as the Children’s Panel too.
The passing of the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament shows strong backing for the Children’s Hearings System and the support it has to offer children and young people in Scotland.
Children's Hearings Scotland welcomes the passing in the Scottish Parliament of the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Bill, which enshrines in law age-appropriate care and justice for all young people across the country.
Children’s Hearings Scotland congratulates and welcomes into the hearings system more than 330 new Panel Members. National Convener Elliot Jackson formally appointed the new Panel Members for a three-year term, following completion of their pre-service training. They will begin sitting at children’s hearings in the coming weeks.
